HereMOM Leads Global HMO Innovation with Expert Collaboration for Launch of 6HMOs Shield Essence
Recently, the “Science and Innovation in HMOs for Infant Nutrition in Asia and the Future of HereMOM 6HMOs Shield Essence” symposium was held at the Aman Summer Palace in Beijing,China. The Beijing Food Institute guided the event, which was hosted by HereMOM Singapore. The symposium centered on advancing scientific research and applications of Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) in Asia's infant nutrition sector.
The symposium gathered experts, including Professor Luo Yunbo, Chairman of the Beijing Food Institute; Professor Zhang Yumei from the Public Health School of Peking University; Dr Gao Ying from the Shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Che Huilian from the Food Science and Nutritional Engineering College of China Agricultural University; Professor Li Boiliang from the Food Science College of Northeast Agricultural University; Secretary-General Rong Yi from the HMO Special Committee of Beijing Food Institute; Dr Liu Zhenyun, founder and CEO of Yixi Biotech; and Grace Liu, the Chairwoman of HereMOM Singapore.
Collaborative Exchanges Drive Development, Industry Associations Strongly Support HMO Application Innovation
Professor Luo Yunbo emphasized the essential role of HMOs in infant health and development in his opening remarks. He highlighted that HereMOM, a leading HMO research and application brand in Asia, is promoting scientific exchange and innovation by hosting this symposium in China. He stated, “This gathering fosters HMO application innovation and offers forward-looking insights into the future of infant nutrition.”

Scientific Advances Drive Innovation; Policy Support Enhances Industry Development
Research breakthroughs and policy approvals are essential for advancing the HMO industry. During the symposium, experts examined the important role of Human Milk Oligosaccharides in early childhood nutrition, exploring their applications and the evolving regulatory landscape.
Professor Zhang Yumei from the Public Health School of Peking University, Dr Gao Ying from the Shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Li Boliang from the Food Science College of Northeast Agricultural University shared insights into the scientific value of HMOs in supporting infant health.
Professor Luo Yunbo, along with Dr Liu Zhenyun, founder and CEO of Yixi Biotech, discussed the regulatory trends affecting HMO applications in early childhood nutrition and the significant impact these policies have on the industry.
Professor Che Huilian from the Food Science and Nutritional Engineering College of China Agricultural University and Secretary-General Rong Yi of the HMO Special Committee highlighted the future potential of HMO applications, noting that current use is primarily limited to infant formulas and other dairy products for older children. They envisioned a broader range of applications for HMOs and the possibilities that lie ahead.
Additionally, Professor Zhang Yumei and Dr Liu Zhenyun used HereMOM’s 6HMO products as examples to explore advancements in synthetic biology and the potential for diversified applications in the HMO sector.
New Approaches to Infant Health: 6HMOs Shield Essence Set to Launch
The symposium addressed rising concerns over infectious diseases among children in China, with the World Health Organization (WHO) identifying respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), rhinovirus, and influenza as major pathogens. As the primary active nutritional component in breast milk, HMOs play a crucial role in lowering infection rates and enhancing infants’ immune resilience[1].
Shawn Yang, Brand Director of HereMOM, Greater China region, and he presented research on the Chinese market and showcased HereMOM’s achievements in developing and applying HMO-enriched products. He revealed that the company’s 6HMOs Shield Essence, which is designed to boost immunity and support healthy development, is planned to reach Chinese consumers by the end of this year.
